FAQs

  • What is NYWC?

The National Youth Workers Convention (NYWC) is a gathering of people from all around the country (and the world!) who work with and care about teenagers. It’s an opportunity for you and your team to get training, be inspired and encouraged, do some bonding and team building, and have fun!

  • What can I expect at NYWC?

You can expect opportunities to do what you need most. We design the event to offer you as many choices as possible, allowing you to fill your schedule as much or as little as you’d like. Some attendees will try to attend every seminar and session possible. And the opposite, some attendees will use the time to rest, pray, reflect, network.

  • How do I get the best price for NYWC?

Register in December for a special rate of $239. Prices will go up in January, and all pricing options and deadlines will be launched in the spring when the full website launches.

  • Who runs NYWC?

Youth Specialties (YS), a ministry of Real Resources, creates and produces the National Youth Workers Convention, and has done so for over 40 years. Youth Specialties has been training and equipping youth workers since the 1960s, and is solely devoted to helping people who care about teenagers find effective ways to minister to them in any context.

  • Where can I find a list of the seminars available at NYWC?

All the details for the 2015 National Youth Workers Convention will be available in the spring.

  • What kind of training will my team and I get?

We offer dozens of practical training seminars led by youth ministry veterans, professors, and in-the-trenches practitioners who take the time to interact with attendees and answer questions specific to your ministry. Whether you’re new to ministry or you’re a seasoned veteran, you’ll find something that will challenge you or teach you something new.

  • Will I be able to find time and space for rest and refreshment of my soul?

We know that people who are passionately serving in ministry often neglect to refuel their own soul. You’ll find places for you to care for your soul, whether you spend time in our prayer chapel, visiting our Sanctuary, or in a meeting with a spiritual director. You’ll also experience times of worship during our Big Room sessions when you get to participate in the worship (instead of planning or leading it!).

  • What kinds of tools and resources will we find at NYWC?

The YS Store is stocked with books, curriculum, and videos that are designed to make it easier for you to do ministry with teenagers. The store staff is always on hand to help you find exactly what you need. And, the NYWC Exhibit Hall is packed with tools and resources that could help you in ministry (and usually lots of great freebies!).

  • Are there any opportunities that you offer exclusively for youth groups?

We have a discipleship-centered event that we offer in select areas across the country called PlanetWisdom. You will have the opportunity to bring your entire youth group for a weekend packed with discipleship tools, a worship experience, and the ultimate strength and renewal experience for your youth ministry. For more details and to find the event nearest you go to www.planetwisdom.com.

  • Will there be opportunities to interact with other youth workers and/or hang with my team?

If you come to NYWC alone, you’ll never be lonely. We won’t force you into awkward icebreaker activities that you might make your youth groups participate in (or will we…?). But you’ll find plenty of other fun, crazy, passionate youth workers that you can get to know. If you come to NYWC with your own team, you’ll have space in the weekend to spend time together having fun, debriefing, and dreaming.

  • What's the schedule like at NYWC?

In general, we pack the schedule full, but we leave it up to you to decide how much or how little you participate. We’ve got something for everyone—the early birds and the night owls, and everyone in between.

The full schedule will be available in the spring.

  • What hotels are nearby, and are there special rates?

We negotiate special rates for NYWC attendees. Once we have all our details in place this spring, you’ll get all the information on hotels in San Diego and Louisville.

  • Can I volunteer to help at NYWC?

Yes! Absolutely. We will be looking for a team of Full Convention Volunteers and a team of Registration Volunteers. The applications will be online when the full NYWC 2015 website launches in the spring.

  • What if I can’t attend the whole time?

We have day passes available for Friday and Saturday. Pricing and info will be available in the spring.

  • Does my registration include food and lodging?

No. Food and lodging is not included. We work hard to get deals with hotels near each convention location. Feel free to take advantage of that special pricing or find another place that fits you better. We also work hard to make sure there are many dining options available within walking distance of the convention.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations up to 30 days prior to the event are subject to a $75 per person non-refundable cancellation fee. Cancellations within 30 days of the event, or “no-show,” will result in the forfeiture of the full payment.

  • What if your question wasn't covered here?

Don’t worry! We’re always here to help. Simply call 888.346.4179, send us an email, or click on the YS Chat option at the bottom of this page.

  • Are my student leaders able to come as well?

NYWC is structured to focus entirely on youth workers, which includes full-time staff, ministry assistants, volunteers, interns, and leadership. It’s a time to get away, hang out, relax and get some teaching and training that will help you minister more effectively to your teens. We recommend looking for events like PlanetWisdom for the development of your students that are leaders within the group.

  • My spouse and children are coming, can they join me in the Big Room sessions?

YS loves youth workers and their families! The Big Room however, is designed for adults, not children. With that in mind, we have a nearby family oriented room with a video feed from the Big Room. Comfy chairs, big screen TV—a great place for you and your kids.

  • How can I exhibit at NYWC?

You can get all the details about exhibiting at NYWC here. We have plenty of opportunities for sponsorships, exhibiting, advertising, and more.
