Jeannie is a spiritual director, and she serves on the Soul Shaper Board at Youth Specialties. A volunteer youth worker for 18 years, she recently co-authored Imaginative Prayer for Youth Ministry with Larry Warner. Mom of Liesl and Max, and wife of Marko, Jeannie lives in sunny San Diego.
Imaginative prayer is praying with mental images, imaginatively entering a setting where we invite God to join us. It’s a way of offering our imaginations to the Creator of imagination, opening ourselves to hear, see, touch, taste, and feel God’s presence with us. We’ll ask God to touch our imaginations as we explore a Scripture passage together.
Come and explore spiritual direction in the context of community. We’ll gather in prayer to listen for God’s guidance. Just as we can reflect on the quality of our relationships with friends, family members, colleagues, and others, we can also reflect on our relationship with God—opening ourselves to God’s presence or the nudges of his Spirit. Unlike so many of our other encounters, we’re neither giving nor receiving instruction or advice—we’re truly praying together and speaking out of that prayer. These sessions should be of immediate blessing, and they may also serve as a model for future work in church communities with youth and others.
